Abstract

Fused deposition manufacturing has the potential to fabricate parts with locally controlled properties. Modeling and analysis of the mechanical properties of the FDM parts are the foundation to produce this new class of products. A mechanics model is established for manufacturing FDM parts with required mechanical properties. A series of equations is proposed to determine the elastic constants that are used in the model. The results are evaluated by experiments.
